Trailblazer: DJ Drez
Today is the second in our series of "Trailblazers" that we will bring you every Tuesday. Our Wanderlust Trailblazer spotlight gives you the chance to learn more about the inspiring figures that make up the extended Wanderlust family. We are happy to today present DJ Drez, a frequent collaborator of ours, who blends yesterday’s roots with the innovative urban beats of today. Many of you may have witnessed this for yourself at Wanderlust, practicing while Drez brought earthy vibes and a lighthearted feel to your Wanderlust expereience. He truly adds a dimension to our classes that we feel is integrally "Wanderlust". Here are our five questions for DJ Drez:
WL - What aspects of yoga / meditation / spirituality do you bring into your work?
DJD - I bring all of aspects of yoga into my work. It is a reflection of my practice in various forms. Sound is created and the music itself is my spiritual expression.
WL - How did you get involved with yoga?
DJD - I've been exploring spiritual and mind body disciplines since I was 14 or 15 years old. Some have bore fruits, some not. Yoga has continued to be the most nourishing path for me.
The fruits are plentiful! Oh and my girl talked me in to going to my first class:)
WL - What's your favorite pose?
DJD - Padmasana ‘Lotus Pose’ because it was very difficult for me when I first started practicing. Patience and compassion for my knee and ankle joints were my only choice if I was going to learn this asana. So I practice Padmasana for patience and compassion.
WL - What's feeding your wanderlust today?
DJD - Music!!! It has brought me around the globe for many years. Physically and mentally, I often travel with out going anywhere.
WL - If you could leave one legacy for your community what would it be?
DJD - The understanding that to make the world a better place one must only be responsible for the betterment of one's own mind and living choices. Hmmm....or maybe just my Music :)
